31 Ιουλ 2013 · Running Windows 7 Home Windows explorer is now freezing when I right-click files -- get "not responding" and have to restart explorer -- which does not clear the problem up. Also apps are freezing opening and/or saving files -- notepad, MS Office 2013, Nero 2014 and others.
Windows 7 (64-bit) freezes frequently when starting programs like Firefox for example. Other file operations like emptying the wastebin might trigger this also. The issue can be forced by opening multiple programs before initial loading after startup of the OS is complete.
You can try to check if there's any problem with the File Explorer Index. Having a bad index increases search time for huge directories. If you try to search from the Start Menu, it can be worse. A few users delete or limit their File Explorer Index because it is known to use a big amount of memory.
8 Ιουλ 2016 · If your system (Windows Explorer service) crashes when you right-click, that means one of the context menu options is causing an issue. It is most likely a recent software installation and an entry added by it to the context menu. Launch the Event Viewer: Click the start menu and type eventvwr.msc. Press enter.
