26 Δεκ 2023 · Memory allocation failures can occur due to latencies that are associated with growing the size of a page file to support additional memory requirements in the system. A potential cause of these failures is when the page file size is configured as "automatic."
You may be out of available chunks of memory. For example, the program might require 300MB of memory, and the system might show 500MB free, but there isn't a 300MB chunk available, there's two 200MB chunks and a 100MB chunk. Though I still don't know what would eat up 4GB of memory....

Many of my application are appearing to not be able to allocate memory. This ranges from missing buttons/toolbars in explorer, other apps not starting at all, etc. WinSCP actually gives the most detailed error message:
20 Νοε 2023 · Base on my experience that if there is not enough memory available on the system, the memory allocation request will fail. This could be because other processes are using a lot of memory, or the system itself is using a lot of memory, such as cache or kernel data structures.
19 Φεβ 2011 · Windows XP will try to allocate a paging file approximately 1.5 times the total amount of the RAM installed in your system. Letting Windows XP handle the paging file size is adequate for most configurations.
