The global index, which measures the extent of modern slavery in 160 countries, reported that 7.8 per 1,000 Filipinos, or 859,000 people live in modern slavery.
An estimated 50 million people were living in modern slavery on any given day in 2021, an increase of 10 million people since 2016. Walk Free’s flagship report, the Global Slavery Index (GSI) provides national estimates of modern slavery for 160 countries.
The 2023 Global Slavery Index (GSI) estimates that on any given day in 2021, there were 859,000 people living in modern slavery in the Philippines. This equates to a prevalence of 7.8 people in modern slavery for every thousand people in the country.
