Bombing raids on Cyprus during World War II. British Cyprus was bombed by the Axis powers on several occasions during World War II. The island was weakly defended against aerial attack. It had no anti-aircraft artillery and very few aircraft. [1] The main threat came from the Italian Dodecanese.

On 10 May 1941 the Regiment moved to its main camp at Athaslassa, outside Nicosia. One useful piece of ordnance issued was the towed version of the 2 Pounder Anti-tank gun, of which four were issued to the Regiment. Originally the guns were towed by 15cwt Fordson WOT2C trucks.
Defending Cyprus with a guerrilla force, or at least harassing the enemy troops during the first days of the invasion, was an idea of the War Office planners. 22 Ιουλ 1974 · Turkish invasion of Cyprus. In July 1974 the military junta in power in Greece at the time backed a coup in Cyprus, threatening to unite that island nation with Greece. In response, Turkey landed troops in northern Cyprus, occupying over a third of the country by mid-August.
Cyprus was also bombarded with radio broadcasts from Greece pressing for enosis. In the late summer and fall of 1954, the Cyprus problem intensified. On Cyprus the colonial government threatened advocates of enosis with up to five years' imprisonment and warned that antisedition laws would be strictly enforced.
