Yttria (yttrium oxide, Y 2 O 3) is a rare-earth ceramic which exhibits both exceptional plasma resistance and an aptitude for high-temperature applications. Yttria is often used to stabilize other ceramic compositions like zirconia.
The ceramic mixtures were dried in a stove (Carbolite, NR200-F, Hope Valley, UK) at 50 °C for 24 h before sieving (Retsch, AS200, Haan, Germany) using a 63 μm mesh to collect the resulting milled mixture powders free of balls, agglomerates, and impurities.

The evolution process of the ZrO2 coating layer upon calcination, such as the phase and microstructure of the particles’ surface, was studied.
