Gala Dalí (born Elena Ivanovna Diakonova, Елена Ивановна Дьяконова; 7 September [O.S. 26 August] 1894 – 10 June 1982), usually known simply as Gala, was the wife of poet Paul Éluard and later of artist Salvador Dalí, who were both prominent in surrealism. She also inspired many other writers and artists.
16 Νοε 2023 · Gala’s real name was Helena Ivanovna Diakonova. She was 10 years older than Dalí and, when they met in 1929, she was married to the poet Paul Éluard and mother to a little girl. She also had a lover, Max Ernst , who painted her in a number of portraits.
Dalí invited to his place in Cadaqués Paul Éluard with his wife and their eleven-year-old daughter. The family arrived as part of a real boho landing force that included René Magritte and Luis Buñuel. The artist had met the poet in a nightspot in Paris, but then, he had had no idea that his new friend’s visit would rock his entire life forever.

They married civilly in 1934 in the sanctuary of Els Àngels in Girona and again in a Catholic ceremony on August 8, 1958, after obtaining a special permit from Pope Pius XII.
