A zombie horse is an unused variant of the regular horse. Zombie horses appear to be the horse equivalent of zombies. Like zombies, zombie horses are green-skinned and their eyes are completely black. Zombie horses may be created by the /summon command or with their spawn egg.

Zombie horses can be ridden, and like skeleton horses they can be ridden under water. Compatibility Tested on Minecraft versions 1.20.4 - 1.21.1.

However, in Java Edition, with the use of commands, a zombie horse can be tamed in the same way as a regular horse, granting the Best Friends Forever advancement: / ride @s mount @e[type=minecraft:zombie_horse,limit=1]. A tamed zombie horse can also be summoned using / summon minecraft:zombie_horse ~ ~ ~ {Tame:1b}.
