HOME & GARDEN INFORMATION CENTER. Zoysiagrass Maintenance Calendar. This calendar of suggested management practices is designed to be a general guide in the care of your zoysiagrass lawn. Location, terrain, soil type, health of lawn, previous lawn care, and other factors affect turf performance.
Weed Control: Read product label carefully to determine which weeds are controlled and on which grasses the product can be used. Spring preemergence* prevents crabgrass, goosegrass and other summer weed seeds from sprouting. Broadleaf postemergence* spot spray to kill broadleaf plants like chickweed, wild violet, dandelion, wild onion, etc.
The following management practices will help you care for your lawn throughout the year. Location, terrain, soil type and condition, age of the lawn, previous lawn care, and other factors affect turf performance, so adjust these management practices and dates to suit your particular lawn.
Fertilization: Always fertilize and add lime or sulfur based on a soil test. Zoysiagrass will grow best at a pH of 6 to 6.5. If a soil test shows a higher pH, sulfur can be applied to lower it. Apply 5 pounds of pelletized sulfur per 1000 square feet of turf.
2 Μαρ 2024 · To maintain a healthy and lush zoysia lawn, it is best to fertilize it in late spring, once the grass has greened up and is actively growing. Applying a balanced slow-release fertilizer with a nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium (NPK) ratio tailored for zoysia grass is recommended.
Fertilization. Apply nutrients based on soil testing. In absence of a soil test, apply ⁄ pound of nitrogen per 1,000. square feet approximately three weeks after greenup. In the absence of a soil test, use a complete nitrogen-phosphorus, potassium (N-P-K) turf fertilizer with a 3-1-2 or 4-1-2 ratio (for example, 12-4-8 or 16-4-8).
Zoysia lawns are beautiful, but take extra attention to look their best. Zoysia can tolerate some shade, but not too deep and dark. These lawns need a good de-thatching in the spring and fall (to avoid diseases and pests) and they like a regular fertilizing schedule.
