45 Degree Lying Tricep Extension Instructions. This exercise is a variation of the lying tricep extension (or skull crusher). Sit on the end of a flat bench with a barbell on your thighs. Grip the barbell with an overhand (palms facing down) with your hands about shoulder width apart.
With the traditional lying triceps extension, you begin with your arms extended and the bar directly above your upper chest. In this variation, you’ ll start and finish with your arms at a 45-degree angle – a slight change that can bridge the gap between mediocre improvements and phenomenal gains.
