Many allied nations either abolished or limited the death penalty, and in the U.S., the number of executions dropped dramatically. Whereas there were 1,289 executions in the 1940s, there were 715 in the 1950s, and the number fell even further, to only 191, from 1960 to 1976.

19 Ιουλ 2023 · The modern movement to abolish the death penalty in the United States stresses that this punishment cannot be applied fairly and effectively. The movement does not emphasize that killing prisoners is inhumane per se.
In the seven years from the end of 2000 to the end of December 2007 a further 15 countries abolished capital punishment completely and two more for all ordinary crimes. Only two of the 15 had abolished the death penalty for ordinary crimes prior to abolishing it for all crimes.
