The positive form is used when there is no direct comparison being made to anything specific, but is used to offer a broad or general comparison.
Adjectives and Adverbs. Adjectives are used to modify nouns, e.g. The dog is loud. – What is the dog like? – loud. Adverbs are used to modify verbs, adjectives or other adverbs, e.g. The dog barks loudly. – How does the dog bark? – loudly.
We can use comparative adverbs to show change or make comparisons: I forget things more often nowadays. She began to speak more quickly. They are working harder now. We often use than with comparative adverbs: I forget things more often than I used to. Girls usually work harder than boys.
