IceBridge was the largest airborne survey of Earth's polar ice ever flown. It yielded an unprecedented three-dimensional view of Arctic and Antarctic ice sheets, ice shelves, and sea ice.

Born in Borge, Østfold, Norway, Amundsen began his career as a polar explorer as first mate on Adrien de Gerlache's Belgian Antarctic Expedition of 1897–1899. From 1903 to 1906, he led the first expedition to successfully traverse the Northwest Passage on the sloop Gjøa .

6 Ιουν 2013 · WASHINGTON – NASA begins a series of flights Oct. 15 to study changes to Antarctica’s sea ice, glaciers and ice sheets. The flights are part of Operation Ice Bridge, a six-year campaign that is the largest airborne survey ever made of ice at Earth’s polar regions.
