American Legion Baseball is a variety of amateur baseball played by 13-to-19-year-olds in fifty states in the U.S. and Canada. More than 3,500 teams participate each year. The American Legion Department of South Dakota established the program in 1925 at Milbank, South Dakota.
The first program in the world to provide a national baseball tournament for teenagers, American Legion Baseball was born. In 1926, posts in 15 states began to turn Griffith’s vision into a reality.

American Legion Baseball became a national program by convention action in 1925, and the first national tournament was held in 1926. Only 16 states were represented in this year.
