The Meldahl hydroelectric facility is a 105 MW run-of-the-river hydroelectric power plant providing renewable generation to the region. Located in Foster, Kentucky, the facility is the largest hydroelectric power plant on the Ohio River.
The Cannelton hydroelectric facility is an 88 MW run-of-the-river hydroelectric power plant providing renewable generation to the region. The facility is located on the Ohio River near Hawesville, Kentucky.
AMP-Ohio's 121 member communities represent 516,000 customers, whose peak load is approximately 3,500 MW. AMP-Ohio owns 31 generating stations that produced 573 MW of power in 2005. The company makes up the balance of its 3,500 MW peak load by purchasing power in Midwestern power markets.
AMP is constructing the largest new hydroelectric generation deployment of its kind today. That run-of-the-river deployment – comprising the Cannelton, Meldahl, Smithland and Willow Island hydro projects on the Ohio River – totals more than 300 megawatts (MW) of power.
AMP Fremont is a 540 MW nominal load 2 x 1 natural gas fired generating station with 163 MW of duct-firing capacity. American Municipal Power (AMP) and its members self-operate several electric plants.
Richard H. Gorsuch Generating Station: In the 1980s, as AMP began looking for sources of power, it learned that Elkem Metals had surplus capacity at their power plant in Marietta, Ohio. Eventually, AMP-Ohio decided to purchase the plant and in 1987 assumed a 70-percent ownership of the plant, which was the first large generation asset financed ...
