I am aware about the "a" and "an" being determined by the vowel sound and not by the initial letter of a noun. Just wanted to confirm as there was a misprint in the solution key.

If you said 'my favourite animal is a dog' you would be referring to a specific dog, for example: 'my favourite animal is a dog called Rex'. You could also say 'my favourite animals are dogs'.
