At least one strain of B. megaterium can be considered a halophile, as growth on up to 15% NaCl has been observed. [8] Gram-stained Bacillus megaterium. Phylogenetically, based on 16S rRNA, B. megaterium is strongly linked with B. flexus, the latter distinguished from B. megaterium a century ago, but only recently confirmed as a different ...

27 Νοε 2011 · A slide of gram-stained Bacillus megaterium (Bacteria, Firmicutes) seen at approximately 1,000x magnification. This bacterium is a gram-positive bacillus that is in the streptobacillus form (growing in long chains).
26 Ιουλ 2007 · B. megaterium is a Gram-positive, mainly aerobic spore-forming bacterium found in widely diverse habitats from soil to seawater, sediment, rice paddies, honey, fish, and dried food. It can grow in simple media on more than 62 carbon sources out of 95 tested, including all tricarboxylic acid cycle intermediates, formate, and acetate.
A comparison of the roles of the cell wall, cytoplasmic membrane, and cytop lasmic components revealed that the intact cell wall was the dominant contributor to the gram-positive state of Bacillus megaterium.
Over 30 years, the Gram-positive bacterium Priestia megaterium (previously known as Bacillus megaterium) was systematically developed for biotechnological applications ranging from the production of small molecules like vitamin B12, over polymers ...
