The beach itself is very nice, perfectly fine sand, with the Black Rock lava formation on one side and various resorts in the back. You can walk to Whalers Village for dining and shopping, again an ice cream and come back to the beach.

Parts of the island have sparkling white sand beaches and turquoise water, while other beaches are made of volcanic black sand and shrouded in thick, lush jungle. On Maui in particular some beaches are actually rust and burnt orange.
