Big Sky Airlines (GQ) was a commuter airline that was established in Montana during June 1978, to fill the void left by Frontier Airlines when many of the smaller routes were dropped due to deregulation. Flights started in September 1978, from a Billings, Montana base to Helena and Kalispell, Montana using a Cessna 402.
Big Sky Airlines was established, obtaining operating certificate of Hesley Flying Service (founded in 1944) in 1978 and started operations on 15Sep1978. Took over Aspen Mountain Air’s Essential Air Service routes in 1998. Feeder airline based at Billings, Montana. Its final scheduled flights arrived in Billings on the morning of 08Mar2008
