POC I meet don't like, those of us that are white, with box braids and dread locks, and organizations that work for equality doesn't like it. So I listen to their voices and experiences, and don't get dreads or boxed braids.
28 Δεκ 2023 · Today, I got crochet box braids for the first time (18 inches, small/medium, my natural color) and I hate them. I did a lot of research and went to a stylist I trust, but, still, something is just off. The top is bulky and it just seems like way too much hair overall, even though it was just a standard seven packs.

But braiders are up charging left and right (inflation hit us all) and $250 is the going rate for medium box braids that length. I would negotiate down to $200 and not a penny more.

12 Απρ 2022 · When I get box braids, I am always told that my hair has ‘too much slip’ (idk if that term use is diff outside my state). So, the stylist’s grip is all too real. Knotless or otherwise- they grip me up. The only technique that doesnt result in pain is with rubberbands (avoid all edges) and then box braid it down. I don’t have a tender scalp.
Curls look good too. Boxed all day! They are more versatile and give you a more polished look! You can also "style" them as cornrows if you wanted. You can be the party boy with the boxed braids, but also play more conservative if you wanted to wear the boxes in a ponytail. Going against the grain to say curls!
