13 Οκτ 2022 · The external iliac artery (EIA) is the larger of the two terminal branches of the common iliac artery (CIA). It courses medially along the iliopsoas muscle and enters the thigh under the inguinal ligament, where it becomes the common femoral artery. It has two branches: the inferior epigastric artery and the deep circumflex iliac artery.
The external iliac artery provides the main blood supply to the legs. It passes down along the brim of the pelvis and gives off two large branches - the "inferior epigastric artery" and a "deep circumflex artery." These vessels supply blood to the muscles and skin in the lower abdominal wall.
