Though urinary catheters are often necessary in managing complicated patients, these devices make patients susceptible to infections. CAUTIs impose a substantial threat to public health, and their treatment and control is becoming challenging due to the rise of antibiotic-resistant uropathogens.
Asymptomatic women and men with recent catheter removal who have urinary tract infection (UTI) diagnosed by urine culture should be treated based on the culture results. Optimal duration of treatment is not known.
