All outdoor ape habitats have a variety of climbing structures and swinging vines as well as numerous toys, tubs, culverts, and enrichment devices. Additionally, there are three other enclosures for quarantining new arrivals and a special ape habitat for our handicapped and geriatric apes.

The Center for Great Apes is an animal sanctuary for great apes located east of Wauchula, Florida. Founded as a nonprofit organization in 1993, the sanctuary has about 70 orangutans and chimpanzees who were formally used in entertainment, scientific research, or the exotic pet trade. [2]
The Center for Great Apes is located near the Central Florida town of Wauchula. Not a public attraction, the Center, which is run on private donations and grants, welcomes guests for visits twice a year with a $50 annual membership fee.
Meet the Orangutans ADOPT AN APE Caring for one of our apes costs over $30,000 a year. By symbolically adopting the ape of your choice, you are helping ensure your orangutan or chimpanzee's health, safety, and well-being.
Center for Great Apes has been rescuing apes for over 25 years, and currently cares for 44 chimpanzees and 27 orangutans at its sanctuary in Wauchula, Florida, including new arrivals: In November 2021, they welcomed "The Great Eight" - a group of seven chimps plus a solitarily housed chimp from the Wildlife Waystation.
