2 Αυγ 2006 · I've had no luck getting hold of citric acid (for elderflower cordial).I tried Boots and Tesco but no joy. I've got a feeling that it is impossible to get over the counter because it can be used to make illegal drugs:eek: I think I read that on here a few months ago, but could be wrong.
10 Νοε 2007 · In true moneysaving, I tried to buy some Citric Acid this afternoon to de-scale my kettle - I (used) to find it far cheaper than the expensive sachets containing the same stuff (3 sachets for £5 in Whittards).
8 Δεκ 2008 · Also, be aware that freezing can affect the setting ability of fruit. I've not investigated it enough to be able to say categorically that freezing destroys pectin, but I froze some crab apple juice one year and 6 months later it would not gel at all.
11 Ιουν 2010 · I can't get citric acid anywhere - chemists won't stock it because it's used for drugs and even though a respectable grey haired woman like myself clearly (I hope!!) doesn't want it for drugs the one I asked won't order any in because if word got out that they had it or could get it they would be targeted for breakins
19 Αυγ 2010 · As a short term solution, try cleaning the worktops and cupboard doors with a citrus based cleaner, because flies co not like citric acid. We found this out years ago, when our whole area had a fly infestation due to the local farmer using a certain organic treatment on his crops.
30 Σεπ 2018 · PS Never use ordinary household coal as it contains loads of sulphur which mixes with water (most fuels contain some water even well dried wood), forming sulphuric acid which will rot your steel/iron stove not to mention the liner if you have one. Also in cities and town you will be in a smokeless zone so its illegal as well as anti-social.

28 Αυγ 2018 · Spending the afternoon reading up on this, I'm finding some reports of damp reacting with the chemicals produced when coal fires are burned that can cause an effect like acid rain within the chimney. I guess I'll have to see what state the chimney is in after it's opened up to find out whether it looks like it was originally a coal fire behind where the old gas fire is now.
29 Ιουν 2009 · Dead easy to do, but we just did the ones that were at bottom or roof, tiles were very cheap about 10 for less than a fiver and easy to fit they just slid under one above and they had a groove in them and locks onto the woodern struts
12 Δεκ 2020 · Stop-start cars are normally fitted with AGM batteries, because lead-acid wouldn't last long with the constant charge-discharge required from very frequent starting. If they mean "not suitable for AGM batteries", then I'd like to understand why.
