Hurricane is located on the I-64 expressway near highway US-60 approximately 24 miles west of Charleston, West Virginia, and 26 miles east of Huntington, West Virginia.
Hurricane is a city in Putnam County, West Virginia, U.S. The population was 5,222 at the 2000 census. The 2009 census estimates the population at 6,272. Hurricane was named after Hurricane Creek, which was, in turn, named after a group of trees at the mouth of the river bent in one direction.
