Most preemergence herbicides give effective control of crabgrass, foxtails, annual bluegrass, and chickweed. A few other grassy and broadleaf weeds are controlled with specific preemergence herbicides.
The purpose of this current report is to quantify the genetic differences in forage yield and quality among commercially available crabgrass varieties grown in Oklahoma. This information can give producers an indication of forage production potential of these various varieties.
Preemergence herbicides are effective in controlling crabgrass, foxtails, annual bluegrass, chickweed, and a few other selected grassy and broadleaf weeds, depending on the applied herbicide. All must be applied prior to germination and “washed” into the root-zone soil where weed seeds are located.
Crabgrass is not controllable with standard broadleaf weed control products. Instead, using safe, ecosystem-based IPM strategies, we stand by the effectiveness of our specialized crabgrass control program for correcting the imbalances caused by a crabgrass invasion.
