Decked: We offer the Fulmar and Shearwater. Decked sailing canoes are more seaworthy than open sailing canoes. The decks help to keep the water out when sailing in rough conditions and also allow the canoe to recover from a capsize completely empty of water.
3 Ιουν 2024 · The Waterlust sailing canoe designed by Dillon Majoros of Chesapeake Light Craft (CLC) is a 17′ decked sailing canoe designed for “high-performance expedition cruising.”. It was developed in 2016 in partnership with Waterlust, a group of environmentally focused scientists, for a journey along the Intracoastal Waterway.
Within a couple of years of the OCSG forming, a few members started a revival of the decked sailing canoe. Homebuilt plywood canoes were starting to appear amongst the plastic open canoes and a few of these experimented with decks and bulkheads to make built in buoyancy.
At the Island Canoe Club, with the help of Lou Whitman, these canoes were decked, fitted and rigged by the individual sailors but are remarkably similar. With the same wood shell, they could be finished wider or deeper or with different decking or centerboard trunk and mast placement.
