Flexibility refers to the ability of muscles, joints, and soft tissues to move through an unrestricted, pain-free range of motion. It involves the capacity of these structures to stretch, lengthen, and contract without limitations, allowing for smooth and efficient movement.
The Sit and reach test is one of the linear flexibility tests which helps to measure the extensibility of the hamstrings and lower back. It was initially described by Wells and Dillon in 1952 and is probably the most used flexibility test.

25 Αυγ 2024 · The sit and reach test is the most common way to measure lower back and hamstring flexibility. Because tightness in the lower back and hamstrings is often related to muscle pain and stiffness, this test may help determine a person's risk for future pain and injury.
The Sit & Reach Flexibility Test is easy to administer and is an indirect measurement of flexibility as it is recorded as distance rather than degrees. It is a composite test (measuring multiple joints movements) and has low test validity (NSCA 2012).
