14 Φεβ 2024 · Throughout the renaissance period in the 16th century, the flute was one of the most popular instruments in a very vibrant Italian music scene. The instrument was held in high esteem, even collected by Henry VIII who was an accomplished performer of the flute/recorder, harp, horn, lute, and lyre.
The flute’s history begins in the prehistoric era, with the earliest known instruments dating back over 35,000 years. Found in present-day Germany, these primitive flutes were carved from bird bones and mammoth ivory, indicating the instrument’s significance in early human societies.
7 Οκτ 2024 · The earliest example of a Western end-blown flute was discovered in 2008 at Hohle Fels cave near Ulm, Ger. The flute, made from the bone of a griffin vulture, has five finger holes and measures about 8.5 inches (22 cm) long. It is thought to be at least 35,000 years old.
The bamboo flute has a long history, especially in China and India. Flutes have been discovered in historical records and artworks starting in the Zhou dynasty (c.1046–256 BC).
