18 Ιουλ 2023 · The roots of garlic chives are elongated bulbs attached to underground rhizomes. Each bulb produces 4-9 leaves and a single flowering stem. The rhizomes spread reaching 20 inches (50cms) across in 3yrs.
Garlic chives are native to the Himalayan region of India, Nepal and Bhutan, including the adjacent Chinese province. They have become naturalized in many parts of the world. Here in the US they are hardy in zones 4 through 10. In warmer zones, 8 through 10, they remain green year round.

Sow garlic chives direct from April to August into a narrow drill or into a container. Alternatively, sow under cover from February and plant out seedlings from May, around 10cm apart. Water regularly, especially during hot weather.
