5 Οκτ 2014 · I hope that someone might be able to assist in my search for details of a gunner in the Royal Garrison Artillery. His service record has not survived but his medal card indicates that his regimental number was 189609 and he was (only) awarded the British and Victory medals.

Short but sweet question, What was a Garrison Battalion ,as the name suggests they stayed at home in the Garrison, but obviously in the Great War they did,nt, so were they used just like a regular Battalion or did they have "other duties". I know the 1st Garrison Battalion of the King's Liverpool Regiment went to egypt.

It was usually filled by men who had extended in the service beyond the normal pensionable age, and so the post was not considered regimental duty (RD), but extra regimental employment (ERE).

11 Αυγ 2023 · Yes, each large garrison had a battalion to carry out the administrative and especially escorting, guarding, and policing duties. It freed up the other battalions for training. Such battalions often contained men with limited employability for a range of reasons, albeit mostly medical. Edited 12 August , 2023 by FROGSMILE.
