I make art that speaks softly, normally working on wood and canvas using a variety of media including acrylic, oil, resin, and tar. When first beginning a piece, I start with a general idea of the direction I want to go in, leaving room for the accidental and usually take several weeks to complete depending on inspiration and weather.
George Marks is a contradiction. His work is simultaneously ordered and spontaneous. Carelessness and rigid geometry mingle on the canvas. Passages of drawing in the work range from sensitively rendered figuration to loose impetuous scrawls. His palette is generally warm and harmonious, but searing thin stripes of color may awaken the calm.
George Marks is an award-winning contemporary visual artist and social sculptor living and working in the small rural town of Arnaudvillle, Louisiana. He attended Louisiana State University, where he received a Bachelor’s degree in fine art with an emphasis on painting and drawing.
