Area codes 213 and 323 are telephone area codes in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) for the U.S. state of California. They are assigned in an overlay complex to a numbering plan area (NPA) that comprises, roughly, the area of downtown Los Angeles City, as well as several southeast Los Angeles County cities, such as Bell and Huntington Park.
Already, within Los Angeles County, area codes 310 818 and 909 have respective overlay area codes of 424, 747 and 840. New area code 738 will bring the number of area codes within the county to twelve, giving Los Angeles County the highest concentration of area codes in the nation.
