12 Ιουλ 2024 · Herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) is the virus most commonly linked to genital herpes, a sexually transmitted infection (STI) that causes painful blisters and ulcers on the penis, vagina, or rectum. The virus is passed during intimate sexual contact prior to and following the outbreak of ulcers.
Type 2 (HSV-2) spreads by sexual contact and causes genital herpes. Most people have no symptoms or only mild symptoms. The infection can cause painful blisters or ulcers that can recur over time.

Herpes is passed directly from the affected area of skin (which could be the genitals, face or hands), by direct skin to skin contact, with friction, when the virus is present. (See also asymptomatic shedding, below.) It may come back at or near the place the virus was caught.
