The Ice Capades were traveling entertainment shows featuring theatrical ice skating performances. Shows often featured former Olympic and US National Champion figure skaters who had retired from formal competition. Started in 1940, the Ice Capades grew rapidly and prospered for 50 years.

In 1960 and 1961, Ice Capades featured skating stars Aja Zanova, Cathy Steele and Phil Romayne, Bobby Specht, 1960 Olympic Pair Champions — Barbara Wagner and Bob Paul, Cathy Machado, and Ronnie Robertson.
A signature feature of a Capades show was the “Oooooh!” of thousands of audible gasps that greeted the first sudden burst of light illuminating the dozens of skaters in sparkling costumes on a gleaming ice stage.
In a salute to the world of entertainment Arthur Godfrey, Liza Minnelli and Roger Miller join some of the world's championship skaters, including Dave Pitts and his famous skating chimp Spanky.
18 Νοε 2019 · For three days in late June, this special group gathered at the Flamingo Las Vegas Hotel and Casino to rekindle friendships and reminisce about the precious time they shared performing in traveling ice shows. While the focus was on the Ice Capades event, all those who skated in the many famous traveling ice shows were invited to come celebrate.
