4 Ιουν 2017 · To the Question (A rule and an example): Most of the rules for capitalization I have been taught (or harangued about) propose that, when referring to a specific State (e.g., China), the word "State" acts as if it is a stand-in or place-holder for the name of the State. Thus, if "China" rates capitalization, then "State" does also.

This is similar to Washington, DC, which is the city of Washington, which is in and equivalent to the District of Columbia, which is a special territory similar to a state (but not part of any other state).
Each state is further subdivided into "counties", "divisions", or "parishes". In the states I've spent most of my life in, counties are further sub-divided into "townships". (I don't know off the top of my head how many states have townships versus some other subdivision.)

18 Ιουν 2023 · Prolixity can be used to describe someone who says too much. This may be applicable in some cases. In addition, Logorrhoea is a term with a similar meaning to prolixity although again the primary meaning is simply too much vs. stating the obvious. Share.
