EXPERIMENTS WITH FORMS OF ENERGY – HEAT, LIGHT, AND SOUND. When explored, each topic heat, light, and sound allow students to recognize and understand the energy around them. Below are the interactive activities I use with students to follow up the information we learn through the books and videos.
Students explore the transfer of energy from place to place and form to form. They observe examples of energy transfer between light, heat, electrical, motion, and sound. Students have the opportunity to apply their understanding of energy transfer by building a solar oven.
Energy and Control. The Big Idea: Light and sound are forms of energy with specific properties. Sound is created by vibrations. •Teacher Demonstration: Using a sound source - radio, CD, or cassette player, tested by the teacher beforehand - place a piece of paper directly on the source of the sound.
In this introduction to light energy, students learn about reflection and refraction as they learn that light travels in wave form. Through hands-on activities, they see how prisms, magnifying glasses and polarized lenses work.
