R2/RT = show the play. Circle/B or X/A = switch players by cycling through them. Circle/B or X/A + D-pad/L-stick = switch players. L2/LT = show pre-snap assignment for player chosen. L3 = pump up crowd. Square/X = audible. D-pad down = defensive hot route for player chosen.
Your D-Pad will give you all pre-snap controls. (i.e. hot routes, press/back off coverage, assignments, motions, etc.) As ball carrier I think you meant sprint when auto-sprint is off?

Sprint in Madden 11 is turned to auto by default. You first need to go into the settings and turn off auto-sprint. Then in game the sprint button is R2. X is stiff arm.
