The Land of Oz is a theme park based on L. Frank Baum's Land of Oz books, located in the resort town of Beech Mountain, North Carolina, US. Carolina Caribbean Corporation opened it in 1970 under the guidance of Grover Robbins, who had been successful with Tweetsie Railroad .
The Land of Oz on top of Beech Mountain is SO well done, and everything from Dorothy’s house, Professor Marvel, the witch’s legs under the house, Glinda greeting everyone….seemed straight out of the movie!
Built at the end of the 60s, this magical theme park retold the story of Dorothy through iconic landmarks, captivating performances and even a colorful 24-ballon ride which provided visitors with spectacular bird’s eye views of the surrounding land. The park opened in 1970 and operated to 1980.
