Machine keys are metal blocks and wedges that insert between a drive shaft and a driven component to transfer the rotational force needed to spin the drive component. They fit into precut slots in the shaft called key seats and grooves in the hub called keyways.
Metric Key Stock is lengths of four sided metallic bars. Key Stock can have either a square or rectangular cross section. Key Stock is most often used to make machinery keys that are used to locate components onto a round shaft.

Keystock is a versatile raw material used to make many types of machine keys, pins, gears, and for conducting quick field repairs on machine keys and shafts. Huyett carries keystock in a variety of materials to match the tolerances and mechanical strength you need.
Keys and key stock are small metal bars or wedges that fit between an output shaft and the hub of a pulley, gear, sprocket, or other rotating component. They provide the torque to drive the rotating component and help prevent unwanted slipping or movement.
Straight key stock is cut down to length to create straight keys. Also called parallel or Form-B machine keys, they feature parallel sides set at 90° from each other and provide a strong interface between a shaft and the rotating component.
