If you are suffering from Morton’s neuroma, also known as Morton’s metatarsalgia, a condition where a nerve in the foot becomes irritated and extremely painful, you may need Morton’s neuroma surgery. It is normally found in the nerve between the third and fourth toes, but the second and third toes can be afflicted too.

Morton's intermetatarsal neuroma is a compression neuropathy of the common digital nerve (Fig. 1). It is most commonly seen in the third intermetatarsal space, but it also can be seen in other intermetatarsal spaces (Fig. 2). A neuroma may occur in more than one intermetatarsal space and may be bilateral.
In 1876, Thomas Morton, who believed the symptoms were caused by the fourth metatarsophalangeal joint, called the condition metatarsalgia. Morton's treatment for the condition was to surgically remove the joint and the adjacent soft tissue, which included the common plantar digital nerve (Morton 1876).
29 Αυγ 2022 · There are a range of non-surgical and surgical treatments for symptomatic Morton’s neuromas. Non-surgical treatment consists of footwear modification, gastrocnemius and Achilles tendon stretching, rehabilitation, corticosteroid infiltration, and analgesia.
