20 Ιαν 2020 · All patients having an operation under general or regional anaesthetic require a pre-operative assessment (POA). This should identify any medical comorbidities and optimise the patient’s physiological state to minimise the impact of surgical procedures and anaesthetic.
The specialised area of nursing that is Preoperative Assessment, is a role that is fundamental in the surgical patient pathway. POA may be undertaken through electronic or paper assessments. Completed remotely via video link or telephone, or through patients attending POA for a face-to-face consultation.
