Straddling the Mississippi at its confluence with the Rock River, the Quad Cities —Moline and Rock Island, Illinois, and Davenport and Bettendorf, Iowa—encompass an enormous sprawl of some 400,000 residents.
The Quad Cities actually consists of five neighboring cities flanking the Mississippi River in Iowa and Illinois in the Midwestern United States. The July 1, 2007, population of the four-county metropolitan area is estimated at 376,160.
