College of the Redwoods (CR) is a public community college with its main campus south of Eureka, California. It is part of the California Community Colleges System and serves three counties. It has two branch campuses, as well as three additional sites.
The Redwoods Community College District was formed in January of 1964 by an election of the voters of Humboldt County. A bond issue of $3,600,000 was passed for the initial construction of what is now the college’s Eureka Campus. From 1965-1967, the college offered courses and programs on the campus of Eureka High School.
To achieve its mission, the Redwoods Community College District follows the mission of the California Community College System as determined by the State Legislature. The District’s mission is evaluated and revised on an annual basis.
