Sadie Hawkins Day is an American folk event and pseudo-holiday originated by Al Capp's hillbilly comic strip Li'l Abner (1934–1977). The annual comic strip storyline inspired real-world Sadie Hawkins events, the premise of which is that women ask men for a date or dancing.
22 Απρ 2024 · Al Capp introduced Sadie Hawkins in 1937 as the daughter of prominent Dogpatch resident Hekzebiah Hawkins. In Capp's telling, Sadie is plain and, as a grown woman still living at home, in need of a man. Dubbed "the homeliest gal in the hills," Sadie's prospects for marriage worry her father.
