Black Rock is New England’s foremost sailing school; one of the most awarded ASA sailing schools in the US and we offer certified ASA courses and much more in Boston, Rhode Island, and the US Virgin Islands.
First Reef Sailing is an American Sailing Association accredited sailing school located in East Boston, MA. We offer ASA certification courses, a sailboat club, corporate events, live-aboard courses, sailboat charters and more. In the winter, we are based in St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands.
The Learn to Sail course is taught on Sonars and covers all the basics, including: Parts of the Boat and Rigging, Points of Sail, Tacking and Jibing, Landing at a Mooring, Balance and Sail Shape Control, Rules of the Road, Man Overboard Drills, Chart Reading and Navigation.
Our main courses are Learn to Sail, Advanced, Cruising, and Coastal Passage Making. In addition, we offer courses to build your navigation range. Qualified adult sailors can sign on at any level.
From the Riverboat, we enjoy unrestricted sailing along Boston’s historic waterfront and beyond, including day sails among the beautiful Boston Harbor islands, overnight trips to Marblehead and longer sails to destinations like Provincetown, Martha’s Vineyard and Newport.
At Black Rock Sailing School, you will obtain world-class sailing instruction and gain access to New England’s youngest fleet of high quality sailing club boats within Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. Our students and annual sailing club members enjoy reciprocity between all of our locations.
