2 Ιουν 2014 · The quickest and easiest way to remove a smooth barrel nut from the factory is to use a pipe wrench and replace it with a slotted or smooth nut. With all the blasting grit and bluing salts they are tough to break loose the first time even with a SSS smooth nut wrench.

A quick internet search of “Savage smooth barrel nut removal” turns up many ideas, most of them bad. While a pipe wrench and/or a Sawzall may seem like go-to tools, they have no place in gunsmithing.
6 Δεκ 2009 · I'm going to remove the barrel on my Savage that has a smooth barrel nut. I have the tool for the regular keyed barrel nut but not the smooth one. If I clamp the barrel in a barrel vise and use a pipe wrench to remove the smooth nut can I replace it with the other style?
