Shade tolerance is a complex, multi-faceted property of plants. Different plant species exhibit different adaptations to shade, and a particular plant can exhibit varying degrees of shade tolerance, or even of requirement for light, depending on its history or stage of development.
6 Ιουν 2023 · It refers to the strategy of some plants to persist and even thrive in environments with low light levels because of the shade produced by the vegetation proximity (e.g. in the understory). Shade tolerance influences the organization, structure, functioning, and dynamics of plant communities.
Based on how plants respond to shade, we typically classify them into two groups: shade avoiding and shade tolerance plants. Under vegetative shade, the shade avoiding species induce a series of shade avoidance responses (SARs) to outgrow their competitors, while the shade tolerance species induce shade tolerance responses (STRs) to increase ...
1 Φεβ 2013 · Two different plant strategies exist to deal with shade: shade avoidance and shade tolerance. All shade-exposed plants optimize photosynthesis to adapt to the decrease in light quality and quantity. When shaded, most species in open habitats express the shade-avoidance syndrome, a growth response to escape shade.
19 Ιαν 2017 · When shade-intolerant plants are simultaneously challenged with competition and herbivory or pathogen attack, foraging for light through growth responses often takes priority over plant immune responses.
13 Σεπ 2024 · Here, we show that the shade-intolerant plant Arabidopsis can remember a first experienced shade event and respond more efficiently to the next event on hypocotyl elongation.
1 Δεκ 2008 · Shade tolerators, such as most summer-blooming wildflowers (sensu Neufeld and Young, 2014), employ a photosynthetic strategy that allows them to efficiently photosynthesize under reduced light ...
