Type %temp% in the search box. Click OK or press Enter to open the Temp folder. The Temp folder holds all the temporary files and folders for the Windows XP systems. From the Tools menu, click Folder Options. The Folder Options window should now appear. Click the View tab.

Delete everything in C:\Windows\Temp. Delete everything in C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Temp. Delete the hidden C:\Windows\$Nt*Uninstall* folders, which allow you to uninstall updates you installed over time (not that you need it, right?).
16 Οκτ 2005 · Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder. Go to Start > Run and type %temp% in the Run box. The Temp folder will open.
The location you mentioned is the default location for System Environment Variable "TEMP" or "TMP". Applications use the TEMP for storing temporary data, data that will be needed for the specific user session & installers use it to extract the data from the compressed installation files.
