As amended, the Act provides for SIV status for eligible Iraqi or Afghan translators and interpreters, who have worked directly with the U.S. Armed Forces or under Chief of Mission (COM) authority at U.S. Embassy Baghdad or U.S. Embassy Kabul.
20 Μαρ 2024 · The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad is located inside the International Zone. To get to the embassy, you must go to the checkpoint 7 near Al Nahrain Center for Military Studies, shown on the map below as “Entry Point.”
Please note: As of January 1, 2020, all consular services at U.S. Embassy Baghdad are suspended due to an attack on our facility. You may therefore have to schedule your interview at a U.S. embassy or consulate with immigrant visa processing capabilities outside of Iraq.
Special Immigrant Visas (SIVs) are available to some people who worked with the U.S. Government or its contractors in Iraq or Afghanistan. People who receive SIVs can enter the United States with lawful permanent residence. This is also called a green card.
