Nestled in the heart of Kentucky, Warfield is a city steeped in history and intrigue. Its origins are as salty as the works that birthed it, with a pair of intrepid entrepreneurs, George Rogers Clark Floyd and John Warfield, venturing from Virginia to establish a salt works in the early 1850s.
Warfield is in Martin county about 10 miles east of Inez on the Tug Fork of the Big Sandy River. Warfield was the original county seat when Martin county was formed in 1870, but it was moved to Inez in 1873.
